CARE GUIDE BY MATERIAL

We work with a mix of materials so you can build a collection that balances quality, price, and style without compromise. That also means one piece might need slightly different care than another. Not sure what your jewelry is made of? Head to the product page on our site, check the description, and come back here for the how-to.

10k & 14k Solid Gold

If properly cared for 10k & 14k sollid gold can last a lifetime. Solid gold is hypoallergenic and will not discolor, oxidize, or fade, meaning you can wear your solid gold all day, every day, any way you want.

Like all jewelry proper care will help to extend its lifespan. One thing to note about solid gold is that gold is soft metal so avoid any rigorous or aggressive activites that could damage your pieces.

Make sure to store to store it in a dry space away from any unnecessary elements. If you need to clean your piece use a microfiber cloth and avoid abrassive cleaners

14k Gold Filled

Gold filled jewelry is the quiet overachiever. A thick layer of real gold is pressure-bonded to a brass core, giving you the look and feel of solid gold at a fraction of the price.

For context: gold filled has roughly 100x more gold than standard gold plating. It's fresh-water resistant, hypoallergenic, and tarnish-resistant when cared for.

Wear: You can shower in it here & there (best not everyday), but give it a break from pool water (chlorine), the ocean, and direct contact with perfumes, lotions, and cleaning products.

Store: Tuck it into your MOGANO dust bag or a jewelry box between wears.

Clean: Use a jewelry polishing cloth and gently buff until it shines. For a deeper clean, warm water with a drop of mild soap and a soft toothbrush will do the trick. Be sure to rinse and dry thoroughly.

Gold Vermeil

Not to be confused with typical gold plating, Gold Vermeil is a thick layer of gold, typically 14 or 18 karats, that's bonded on top of Sterling Silver.

Gold Vermeil lets a piece feel high quality without the piece being extremely expensive. It's hypoallergenic, perfect for sensitive skin and long lasting with proper care.

Wear: Remove your Vermeil pieces before encountering water, sweat, perfumes, and lotions. One or two showers won't ruin them - but keep your Vermeil away from daily showers and swimming for their longest life.

Store: In a jewelry pouch or jewelry box to prevent aging, dust, and damage.

Clean: Wash with warm water, gentle soap and a soft cloth. Rinse thoroughly and dry well. Use a jewelry polishing cloth and gently rub until your piece is shiny and clean.

Sterling Silver

925 sterling silver is 92.5% pure silver mixed with a small amount of copper for strength. If you see "925" stamped on your piece, that's what you're wearing.

Silver does tarnish — that's just silver being silver — but it cleans up beautifully! The more you wear your silver, the less likely it is to tarnish. Leaving your silver jewelry on your dresser to oxidize is it's worst nightmare!

Wear: Sterling silver is a soft metal and can scratch easily (we think it adds character). Sterling silver is both water & sweat resistant, so you can wear it in the shower. For it's longest life, keep it away from soaps, perfumes, chlorine, heavy mineral water and saltwater when you can. It reacts with oxygen and chemicals to build up tarnish - which we want to avoid!

Store: In a pouch or box, laid flat and separate from your other pieces so it doesn't scratch or tangle. An air-tight plastic bag or an anti-tarnish strip in the pouch slows oxidation.

Clean: A silver polishing cloth or paste is your best friend. For heavier tarnish, use warm water with mild soap and a soft-bristle brush, then dry thoroughly.

JEWELRY CARE BEST PRACTICES

A few simple habits will keep your MOGANO jewelry pieces looking their best for the long run. And yes — the pouch your order arrives in doubles as a polishing cloth and a travel pouch!

How to clean your jewelry

1. Use a mild dish soap or jewelry cleaner (nothing harsh or abrasive).

2. Soak briefly in warm water and gently swirl to loosen dirt.

3. Work into the detail with a soft toothbrush.

4. Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with a soft cloth.

5. Finish with a polishing cloth for extra shine.

Always check the material guide above first — pearls, gemstones, and different metals have their own rules.

Daily wear best practices

A little intention goes a long way. Try these and your jewelry pieces will thank you:

1. Take it off before cleaning, swimming, or heavy workouts. Gold and silver are soft metals and can scratch easily!

2. Keep them out of the shower (solid gold and gold filled are water and sweat resistant, but keeping them safe and dry will keep your jewels looking their best).

3. Put jewelry on last, after perfume, lotion, and hairspray — those products dull shine and speed up tarnish.

4. Handle gently. Sleeping in delicate chains, pulling on clasps, stones, and chains is the fastest way to loosen or break them.

How to store & travel with your jewelry

Good storage is the single biggest thing you can do to extend the life of your jewelry.Use a jewelry box, pouches, or a sectioned organizer so pieces don't scratch or tangle.

1. Keep materials separated — silver with silver, gold with gold, pearls on their own.

2. For travel, use a case with secure closures so nothing escapes mid-trip. (Our jewelry case is made for this!)

3. Store everything in a cool, dry place, out of direct sunlight and away from humidity when possible.

4. Individual pouches (or even small ziplock bags) are perfect for keeping pieces from rubbing against each other or tangling while you're on the go.

Follow these steps and your MOGANO pieces will stay looking beautiful — at home, on vacation, and everywhere in between.
